Scott Martin Obituary, Death; Officials, Maine man fatally hit in driveway during Naples chain-reaction crash

Scott Martin Obituary, Death – Authorities in Maine have confirmed that a local man died after being hit by a vehicle in a driveway during a crash in Naples. The incident occurred Thursday afternoon, prompting a rapid emergency response from law enforcement and firefighters.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office reported that the call came in shortly after 4:10 p.m., directing deputies and Naples Fire Department personnel to the scene at 227 Roosevelt Trail. Upon arrival, first responders found evidence of a two-vehicle collision in the driveway of the property. They also discovered that a pedestrian had been struck in the course of the crash. Sadly, the man’s injuries were fatal.

The victim was later identified as 56-year-old Scott Martin, a resident of Naples. Authorities said Martin had been in the driveway at the time of the collision, though it remains unclear whether he was standing near the parked vehicle or elsewhere when the crash happened.

According to the sheriff’s office, the chain of events began when a 29-year-old man from West Baldwin, driving a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee, lost control of his vehicle. Investigators determined that the Jeep had swerved to avoid another vehicle, which caused it to leave the roadway. The Jeep then entered the driveway, colliding with a 2013 Ford van that was parked there.

The force of the impact not only damaged the parked van but also fatally struck Martin. Emergency crews at the scene quickly assessed the situation, but Martin was pronounced dead as a result of his injuries. The driver of the Jeep was reportedly uninjured, and no other people were harmed during the incident.

Investigators have not yet released further details about the circumstances leading to the crash, including the nature of the vehicle that the Jeep was attempting to avoid. It is also unknown whether speed, distraction, or other factors played a role in the accident. Authorities have not confirmed if alcohol or drugs are suspected.

At present, no charges have been filed in connection with the fatal collision. Officials indicated that this could change depending on the outcome of the ongoing investigation. Both the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office and the Windham Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Unit are working together to determine the exact sequence of events and contributing factors.

The crash has left the Naples community shocked, as Martin was known locally. While officials have not shared personal details about the victim beyond his identity, the incident underscores the dangers posed by unexpected roadway emergencies, even for those not behind the wheel.

Authorities are expected to release additional updates once they complete the investigation and decide whether any legal action will follow. Until then, they continue to piece together evidence from the scene, interview witnesses, and analyze vehicle damage patterns to understand exactly how the tragedy unfolded.
