The victim, identified as Estuardo Ordoncz, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred on state Route 105 in Pemberville. The accident took place at approximately 11:05 a.m., involving two vehicles heading in opposite directions on the rural roadway.
Authorities said the crash happened when a 26-year-old driver from Gibsonburg, Ohio, was traveling west on Route 105 and attempted to pass another vehicle on a curve. While trying to overtake, he collided with a minivan coming from the opposite direction. The minivan was being driven by a 55-year-old man from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with Ordoncz as a passenger.
According to the sheriff’s statement, both drivers tried to swerve at the last moment to avoid the crash, but the vehicles still struck each other. The impact resulted in fatal injuries to Ordoncz, who died at the scene before emergency services could intervene.
The driver from Pittsburgh and the man from Gibsonburg were both taken to nearby hospitals for treatment of injuries, which officials described as non-life-threatening.
The Wood County Sheriff’s Office has stated that the crash is still under investigation. They are working to determine if any charges or citations may follow once all details are reviewed.
