Cody T. Goetsch Obituary, Death; Sheboygan County crash driver ID’d in incident that injured 23-year-old.

Cody T. Goetsch Obituary, Death – Authorities in Sheboygan County have released the names of the individuals involved in a serious two-vehicle crash that occurred Monday night on Lakeshore Road, which left one man with significant injuries and led to the arrest of another on suspicion of driving under the influence.
The Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office reported that the collision took place around 9:55 p.m. on Monday, July 28, near Willow Creek Lane in Sheboygan. Preliminary findings from the investigation reveal that a vehicle heading south on Lakeshore Road, driven by 52-year-old Donald C. Hammond Jr. of Sheboygan, was attempting to make a turn when it struck an oncoming car traveling northbound.
The northbound vehicle was being driven by 23-year-old Cody T. Goetsch, also of Sheboygan. The impact of the crash left Goetsch seriously injured. Emergency crews responded quickly, and due to the severity of his condition, he was airlifted from the scene by Flight for Life to receive urgent medical treatment.
While Hammond, the driver attempting the turn, sustained only minor injuries, deputies determined that multiple factors contributed to the crash. Investigators noted that the northbound car driven by Goetsch was traveling at a high rate of speed, which played a role in the collision. However, they also cited alcohol consumption and a failure to yield as contributing factors on the part of Hammond.
As a result of the investigation at the scene, Hammond was taken into custody for operating while intoxicated (OWI), causing injury—a serious offense under Wisconsin law. Authorities are continuing their investigation to gather additional details about the crash and to determine if further charges may be filed.
The collision has raised concerns within the local community about the dangers of impaired driving and the importance of obeying traffic rules. The mix of speed, alcohol, and failure to yield can lead to devastating consequences, as illustrated by this incident.
Both vehicles involved sustained significant damage, and the road was temporarily closed Monday night to allow for emergency response and investigative work. Deputies and crash reconstruction experts worked into the night to document the scene and interview witnesses.
The Sheriff’s Office has stated that the case remains under active investigation. They are encouraging any witnesses or individuals who may have seen the crash or the events leading up to it to come forward with information.
In the meantime, Cody Goetsch continues to recover from his injuries, and his condition has not been updated publicly. Family, friends, and members of the Sheboygan community are hoping for his full recovery and are closely watching the progress of the legal case against Hammond.
Further updates will be provided by authorities as more information becomes available regarding the incident and its legal outcomes.
