Hunter Lyons Obituary, Death – Three individuals, including a 1-year-old child, lost their lives in a tragic two-vehicle accident on July 26 in Breckenridge County, Kentucky, according to a statement by Kentucky State Police Post 4 spokesperson, Scotty Sharp.
The crash took place around 5:10 p.m. Central Standard Time. Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 4 troopers were alerted by Breckenridge County Dispatch and called to investigate the incident, which occurred near the 13000 block of Kentucky Highway 261 (KY 261). Upon conducting an initial investigation, authorities determined that a Ford F-150, heading southbound on KY-261, veered across the center line and collided head-on with a Chevrolet Silverado traveling in the opposite direction. The force of the impact was so intense that both vehicles were quickly consumed by flames.
The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado, identified as 22-year-old Hunter Lyons, was killed in the crash. A 1-year-old child riding in the Silverado was also pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Ford F-150, 48-year-old Joseph Maynard of Owensboro, Kentucky, also died at the scene due to the severity of the collision.
Additionally, a female passenger in the Silverado survived the crash but sustained injuries. She was airlifted to the University of Louisville Hospital for treatment. Authorities have stated that her injuries are not considered life-threatening.
At this time, investigators have not determined the cause of the Ford F-150 crossing into the opposite lane. The incident remains under investigation by Trooper John Goldsborough, who is working to uncover further details about the crash.
Several emergency and local response teams assisted in managing the crash site. These included personnel from the Breckinridge County Sheriff’s Office, Breckinridge County EMS, the Hardinsburg Fire Department, and the Fordsville Fire Department. Their efforts were instrumental in securing the scene, providing medical assistance, and investigating the causes and outcomes of the collision.
This deadly crash has shaken the local community, highlighting the dangers of head-on collisions and the devastating consequences that can result in just a matter of seconds. Though the investigation is still ongoing, authorities hope to gain a clearer understanding of the events leading up to the incident to possibly prevent similar tragedies in the future.
