Arick Wren Obituary, Death: St. Louis police name suspect killed by officers after pursuit

Arick Wren Obituary, Death – The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department (SLMPD) has identified the man who was fatally shot by officers during an overnight pursuit last month. The incident occurred in the early hours of June 22 and involved a police response to an earlier shooting in the city.

Authorities confirmed the man shot by police was 42-year-old Arick Wren of Hazelwood, Missouri.

The sequence of events began around 2 a.m. when officers were dispatched to the 4100 block of Manchester Avenue near Sarah Street after receiving reports of a shooting. At the scene, they found an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds.

As officers conducted their investigation, they received information about a potential suspect in the area who was reportedly riding a moped. A short time later, officers spotted someone matching the description and attempted to stop him.

The individual, later identified as Wren, failed to comply and led officers on a brief pursuit. The chase concluded near the 3900 block of Clayton Avenue. Once stopped, Wren reportedly got off the moped but did not follow police commands. According to the SLMPD’s crime summary, Wren reached into a bag, prompting two officers to discharge their firearms, striking him.

Wren was pronounced dead at the scene. A firearm was recovered in his possession, police confirmed.

The two officers involved in the shooting have been identified only by their service time—one has served 14 years with the department, while the other has 7 years of experience. Their names have not been released.

At this time, further information about the initial shooting that brought police to the area has not been made public. Additionally, details surrounding the use of force and the ongoing internal investigation remain limited.

SLMPD has stated that the investigation into both the original shooting and the officer-involved shooting is still active. The department has not commented on whether body camera footage exists or whether it will be released in the future.

The incident marks another addition to ongoing debates in the region regarding police use of force, suspect compliance, and public safety. Community members are awaiting further clarity from SLMPD as investigators work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the events of that night.

Authorities are continuing to review all evidence, including physical items recovered from the scene and witness statements. Any updates will likely be provided as the investigation progresses and findings are verified.

For now, Arick Wren’s death has raised questions that are still being examined by law enforcement officials. The officers involved have not been placed on leave publicly, and it remains unclear if an external review will be conducted.

The department is asking anyone with additional information about the initial shooting or the events that followed to contact SLMPD.
