The fire occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday at a single-story home located in the 300 block of Camelot Estates. Portage Fire Department crews responded to reports of a blaze with a possible person trapped inside the residence.

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered intense flames and thick smoke coming from the north side of the home. They quickly began fire suppression efforts while simultaneously launching a search-and-rescue operation.

During their search, firefighters located an unresponsive man inside a bedroom at the south end of the house. He was removed from the structure, and emergency crews immediately began performing lifesaving procedures on him at the scene.

The man was then transported to St. Mary Medical Center. Despite the medical team’s efforts, he was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

On Sunday, the Lake County Coroner’s Office confirmed the victim’s identity as 24-year-old Inikko Irizarry. No other injuries were reported in connection with the fire.
