Edward Wesley Hildreth Obituary, Death: California man killed in SR360 crash near Mina

Edward Wesley Hildreth Obituary, Death – An 86-year-old California resident was killed Thursday morning in a two-vehicle collision on State Route 360 about 30 miles south of Mina, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP). Troopers were dispatched to the scene at roughly 11:40 a.m. on June 19, near mile marker 1 in Mineral County.
Preliminary findings indicate that a 2021 Kenworth semi-truck pulling a refrigerated trailer was heading north on SR 360. Ahead of the tractor-trailer, a 2012 Chevrolet Tahoe—its hazard lights flashing—was traveling in the same direction. Investigators report that the truck driver pulled into the opposite (southbound) lane to overtake the slower-moving SUV. While the truck was attempting to pass, the Tahoe driver began turning left toward a dirt road, crossing into the southbound lane at the exact moment the semi was beside it.
The front left corner of the Kenworth struck the rear left of the Chevrolet, sending the SUV into a spin. Both vehicles remained upright after impact. The tractor-trailer returned to the northbound lane, while the Tahoe came to rest on the dirt shoulder to the south of the highway.
Edward Wesley Hildreth, an 86-year-old passenger from Menlo Park, California, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Tahoe’s driver suffered serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The semi-truck operator was uninjured. Troopers placed the truck driver under arrest, and the individual was booked into the Mineral County jail; specific charges have not yet been released.
The Nevada Highway Patrol Region Two Traffic Homicide Unit continues to investigate the circumstances of the crash, including factors leading up to the attempted pass and the SUV’s left-turn maneuver.
