James Mulverhill Obituary, Death – The Missouri State Highway Patrol is seeking assistance from the public as they continue investigating a deadly single-vehicle crash that took place on June 13 in northern Cape Girardeau County.
The accident occurred at approximately 11:45 a.m. on Interstate 55, about nine miles north of Fruitland. Authorities confirmed that the driver, a 34-year-old man from Pevely, was killed in the crash. His family later identified him as James “Daltin” Mulverhill.
According to his family, shortly before the crash, Mulverhill used a talk-to-text feature on his phone to send a message to his wife. In the message, he reportedly said that an older man driving a pickup truck was trying to force him off the road. It remains unclear whether the pickup driver’s actions played a direct role in the crash, and investigators are looking into all possible circumstances surrounding the incident.
Mulverhill was driving a 2022 Volkswagen Taos SUV southbound on I-55 when the vehicle veered off the road. The SUV hit a rock, which caused Mulverhill to be ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:16 p.m. by Cape Girardeau County Coroner Craig Williams.
According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Mulverhill was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. His vehicle was completely destroyed in the crash.
The Highway Patrol is actively investigating and has asked anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has information about the events leading up to it to come forward. Witnesses are encouraged to contact the patrol’s regional office at 573-840-9500.
The tragic loss has deeply affected Mulverhill’s family and friends, who are now left seeking answers about what may have contributed to the fatal crash. The possibility of another driver’s involvement has raised concerns, and authorities are working to verify any details that might explain how the incident occurred.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety and seat belt use, as well as the need to report any suspicious or dangerous driving behavior. The Highway Patrol’s investigation is ongoing, and updates are expected as more information becomes available.
