The fatal incident occurred during the early morning hours of June 2.
According to officials, the crash came to light when troopers received a report around 3:45 a.m. of a person walking in the median of I-495. Upon arriving at the scene, police discovered the individual in a nearby parking lot. Haverhill police were already attending to the pedestrian, who was receiving medical care.
When troopers questioned the pedestrian, the individual revealed they had been a passenger in a vehicle that had crashed along the highway. The pedestrian did not provide further details regarding the circumstances of the crash.
A subsequent search of the area led State Police to the heavily damaged vehicle, which was located well beyond the tree line on the southbound side of I-495. Upon inspecting the wreckage, troopers found the bodies of Vasquez and Marcelo inside the car. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.
