Brandon R. Moore Obituary, Death: Police identify man fatally shot in Malta officer-involved shooting.

Brandon R. Moore Obituary, Death – A man who was shot and killed by State Police during a domestic incident in Malta on Thursday morning has been identified as 37-year-old Brandon R. Moore, according to authorities.

The situation began around 9 a.m. when troopers responded to a call reporting a domestic dispute at the Ellsworth Commons Apartments on Route 9 in Malta. Upon arriving at the scene, police learned that Moore had barricaded himself inside one of the apartments, refusing to surrender despite negotiation attempts by law enforcement.

According to police reports, after a period of failed negotiations, Moore exited the apartment holding what appeared to be a handgun. Officers immediately ordered him to drop the weapon, but Moore pointed it in their direction. In response to the threat, the troopers discharged their firearms, fatally striking Moore.

Following the shooting, investigators determined that the weapon Moore had been holding was a carbon dioxide-powered BB pistol, which closely resembled a real handgun.

During the incident, two troopers sustained injuries, although their wounds were not life-threatening. They were treated at a nearby hospital and later released.

The incident remains under investigation by the State Police and the New York Attorney General’s Office, which is standard protocol in police-involved shootings.

Prior to the shooting, authorities evacuated Ellsworth Commons Apartment Building #2 as a safety precaution. However, complications arose when the building’s sprinkler system activated, flooding several apartments. It remains unclear how the sprinklers were triggered, but the resulting water damage rendered the building temporarily uninhabitable. Police have not specified how many apartments were affected.

State Police Maj. Christopher Gilroy provided limited details about Moore’s past, confirming that he had a criminal history but declining to release specific information during the press conference.

Eyewitness accounts from residents provided additional context to the harrowing event. Alicia Pultorak, a resident of the building who works night shifts at a hospital, described her experience. After returning home from work, she noticed multiple police vehicles arriving outside her apartment complex. She observed a woman, escorted by police, leaving the building with visible injuries.

Pultorak recounted that the woman had a bloodied face, allegedly after Moore punched her during the domestic dispute. She also told Pultorak that Moore had threatened to kill everyone in the building and then take his own life.

The scene was described as chaotic and traumatic for residents, many of whom were forced to evacuate unexpectedly. Pultorak said that building maintenance staff informed her it could take three to five days before residents could return to their homes, due to the flooding and necessary repairs.

Adding to the community’s shock, this incident followed another alarming event just a day earlier. On Wednesday afternoon, a separate individual was shot outside the Malta State Police barracks after reportedly opening fire on the building. That shooting incident was unrelated to the Thursday morning domestic violence case but has contributed to heightened concerns and stress within the community.

At this time, police continue to investigate the full circumstances surrounding Moore’s actions and the events leading up to the fatal shooting. The flooded apartments are being assessed for damage, and arrangements are being made to assist displaced residents.

Authorities emphasized the dangers faced by both law enforcement officers and residents in such volatile situations. The incident has raised ongoing concerns about domestic violence, mental health, and the potential for tragic outcomes when firearms or weapons resembling guns are involved.

As the investigation progresses, further details regarding Moore’s criminal history, the domestic dispute, and the shooting may be released. Meanwhile, residents like Pultorak are left to process the traumatic events and await repairs to their homes.

Local officials and law enforcement have extended condolences to those affected and are urging anyone facing domestic violence situations to seek help before they escalate into dangerous or deadly confrontations.
