Bellingham police responded to a reported vehicle crash on North Main Street at 9:42 p.m. Upon arrival, officers determined that Craig Spencer, a Bellingham resident, had been struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross the street.
The first officer on the scene administered life-saving measures before being joined by additional officers and paramedics from the Bellingham Fire Department. Spencer was initially transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital and later airlifted to a trauma center, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The driver involved in the crash, a 21-year-old woman from Bellingham, remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities.
Police stated that preliminary findings suggest Spencer stepped into oncoming traffic. There was no indication that the driver was impaired or speeding at the time of the incident.
