Cora Barrios Obituary, Death  – A tragic two-vehicle crash in Acadia Parish on Monday afternoon claimed the life of a Morse woman, according to authorities.

The Louisiana State Police Troop I responded to the scene just after 4 p.m. on Louisiana Highway 92 (W. Whitney Street) near Everglade Road. The crash involved a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by 50-year-old Cora Barrios of Morse and a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 78-year-old Raymond Knieper.

According to investigators, Barrios was traveling west on Highway 92 when she began slowing down to make a right turn onto Everglade Road. However, Knieper, who was driving behind her in the Silverado, failed to slow down in time and crashed into the rear of her vehicle.

The impact of the collision caused Barrios to sustain severe injuries. Emergency responders transported her to a nearby hospital, but despite medical efforts, she later died. Knieper, who was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, sustained moderate injuries and was also taken to a hospital for treatment.

As part of standard procedure, toxicology samples were collected from both drivers and have been sent for analysis. Authorities have not yet determined whether impairment played a role in the crash.

The incident remains under investigation as law enforcement officials work to piece together the circumstances that led to the fatal collision. Further details may be released as the investigation continues.
