Chase Myles Obituary, Death: A Temple University student was fatally shot in what authorities believe may be a drug-related incident; police have identified another student as the suspected shooter.

Chase Myles Obituary, Death – A student from Temple University was fatally shot, and another individual is in custody following what authorities believe to be a drug-related incident. According to the Philadelphia police, the shooting occurred shortly after 11 p.m. on Thursday in the 1500 block of North Carlisle Street, close to the Temple Nest off-campus housing.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered a 20-year-old male lying in the street between two parked vehicles. He had sustained a gunshot wound to the chest and was unresponsive, as reported by Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small at the scene.
Temple University has identified the deceased as Chase Myles, an undergraduate student enrolled in the Klein College of Media and Communication.
In a communication to the university community, President John Fry expressed, “The loss of any life is a tragedy, but it is particularly poignant when we lose a bright and engaged student like Chase. A resident of Bowie, Maryland, Chase was well-regarded among his peers at Klein and held in high esteem by faculty and staff.”
Emergency responders transported Myles to Temple University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:15 p.m.
According to Small, Myles had been involved in a confrontation with a 23-year-old individual. The university indicated that Myles and the alleged shooter were acquainted and had arranged to meet on Thursday evening.
“We are uncertain whether this incident was a robbery or another type of altercation, but we suspect it may be drug-related, as we found a clear green bag that appears to contain marijuana at the scene. This bag was located right next to his body, and it contained a handgun,” Small stated.
President Fry noted that the suspected shooter is also a student at Temple.
“I am devastated by the senseless loss of such a young life. This tragedy is challenging to understand, and my thoughts and prayers are with all those who are mourning,” Fry remarked.
“The individual suspected of the shooting, who is also a Temple student, is currently in custody. We will continue to provide support to the Philadelphia Police Department as they lead the investigation going forward,” Fry added. “A loss of this nature is profoundly painful for the Temple community, and we acknowledge the impact it has on all of us.”
