Robert E. Reynolds Obituary, Death – An elderly man from Laurens County lost his life in a tragic collision involving a tractor-trailer on U.S. Highway 221, authorities confirmed. The fatal accident occurred near South Carolina Highway 39, and the victim was identified as 83-year-old Robert E. Reynolds of Waterloo.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP), the crash happened when a tractor-trailer, which had initially stopped on Cedar Grove Church Road, attempted to merge onto Highway 221 heading north. At that moment, Reynolds was driving his 1995 pickup truck southbound on the highway.

The impact was severe, as Reynolds’s vehicle collided with the tractor-trailer. He was the sole occupant of the pickup truck and was pronounced dead at the scene. The coroner’s office has scheduled an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Officials have not released any information about the condition of the tractor-trailer driver or whether other factors contributed to the accident.

Investigators are currently examining the circumstances surrounding the incident to establish a clear understanding of how the crash occurred. The SCHP continues to gather evidence and interview witnesses as part of its ongoing investigation.

Fatal accidents involving tractor-trailers are unfortunately not uncommon and often result in devastating consequences due to the size and weight of the vehicles involved. Authorities reminded drivers to exercise caution, particularly when navigating intersections or merging onto highways.

Reynolds’s death has left the local community mourning the loss of a longtime resident. Friends and family are awaiting further updates from the investigation and the outcome of the scheduled autopsy.
