Michael Nowlin; Police identify bicyclist killed in a collision on I-435 in Johnson County.
Michael Nowlin – Early Friday morning, a tragic incident occurred on Interstate 435 near Lamar Avenue, resulting in the death of a bicyclist. The Overland Park Police Department reported that the collision happened shortly after 2 a.m. when a westbound vehicle struck the cyclist, who was later identified as 27-year-old Michael Nowlin from Springfield, Missouri. Emergency Medical Services pronounced Nowlin dead at the scene.
The driver of the car involved in the accident did not sustain any injuries and is cooperating fully with the police investigation. According to Kansas law, cyclists are prohibited from riding on interstates, raising questions about the circumstances leading to the collision. Authorities are currently investigating the factors that may have contributed to this fatal incident.
