Troy professor killed after being struck on roadway.
Dr. Marcus Gaddis Obituary, Death: A tragic accident occurred on Tuesday night when a vehicle struck and killed 79-year-old Dr. Marcus Gaddis, a Troy University professor, on Honeysuckle Road in Dothan. The Houston County Coroner, Robert Byrd, confirmed Gaddis’s identity, but it was unclear whether he was still teaching at the university or had retired.
According to Dothan Police spokesperson Lt. Scott Owens, the driver involved in the accident had fled the scene before officers arrived. Witnesses described the vehicle as possibly a dark-colored pickup truck. Eyewitnesses also suggested that Gaddis may have stopped to retrieve something from the road, potentially from his own car, at the time the vehicle struck him.
Authorities spent several hours investigating the scene, which resulted in the temporary closure of Honeysuckle Road to traffic. The incident remains under investigation as officers work to identify the driver responsible for the hit-and-run and understand the circumstances surrounding the accident.
