Alex Fitzgibbon Obituary, Death – On New Year’s Day, a tragic incident occurred in Lancaster County, resulting in the death of a 34-year-old man named Alex Fitzgibbon from Columbia Borough. Fitzgibbon was struck by an Amtrak train around 5:25 p.m. near Foreman Road in West Donegal Township.

The train, which was traveling from Harrisburg to New York City, hit Fitzgibbon while he was reportedly trespassing on the tracks near the Reems area. Fortunately, none of the 85 passengers or crew members aboard the train were injured. Following the incident, the passengers were transferred to other train cars to continue their journey.

Fitzgibbon was taken to Penn Medicine Lancaster General Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The Lancaster County Coroner’s Office ruled his death an accident.

Amtrak has stated that they are collaborating with local law enforcement to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, aiming to understand how and why Fitzgibbon was on the tracks. This tragic event underscores the dangers associated with trespassing on railway tracks and the importance of safety measures around train routes.
