Anderson Todd, who has been charged with second-degree murder, was arrested in connection with the incident.

According to an affidavit written by a Memphis police officer, the stabbing occurred after an argument between Hopson and Todd escalated into violence. Police responded to a report of a wounding at the warehouse, located at 5709 Bledsoe Road, shortly before 9 a.m. Upon arrival, they found Hopson suffering from multiple stab wounds, including injuries to his upper torso, thigh, and arms. Despite efforts to save him, Hopson was pronounced dead at the scene just before 9:20 a.m. A paramedic confirmed that the fatal injuries resulted from the lacerations sustained during the fight.

Witness accounts provided critical details about the events leading up to the stabbing. Michael Tricksey, who was present at the scene, told police he heard a loud argument before seeing Hopson leave his forklift and confront Todd. Hopson reportedly invited Todd to an area of the warehouse without surveillance cameras to settle their disagreement through a fight. According to Tricksey, Todd declined the invitation, prompting Hopson to pull Todd’s skull cap over his eyes. Once Todd removed the cap, he left his forklift, and the two men began shoving each other.

Tricksey said he then saw Todd swinging his arm in a stabbing motion toward Hopson while Hopson repeatedly pleaded for Todd to stop. Tricksey attempted to intervene and separate the two men but soon saw Hopson walk away from the confrontation and collapse. Meanwhile, Todd reportedly left the scene of the altercation and remained in the breakroom until police arrived.

Bryan Rogers, another warehouse employee, told police he had heard the two men arguing earlier that morning but did not witness the fight. When he heard screaming, Rogers ran toward the commotion and later identified Todd in a photographic lineup, along with Tricksey.

The tragic loss of Jacoby Hopson has left his family, friends, and community in mourning. Hopson was a beloved figure in the Lake Cormorant community, where he worked as an assistant football coach at Lake Cormorant High School, coaching defensive backs. His son, Jarcoby Hopson Jr., is a standout linebacker from Lake Cormorant High and a 2024 Dandy Dozen selection. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound athlete recently signed with Ole Miss on December 4.

Following the incident, Jarcoby Hopson Jr. shared an emotional tribute to his father on social media, calling him a role model and expressing the deep loss he feels.
