Christopher Groak Obituary, Death – A man who was fatally shot during an incident involving law enforcement on Christmas Eve in Middletown has been identified by the coroner of Butler County. The coroner confirmed that Christopher Groak, aged 50, from Middletown, succumbed to injuries sustained in the police-related shooting on Christmas Eve.
Law enforcement responded to an apartment on Park Lane at approximately 7 p.m. on Tuesday following reports of a confrontation between two individuals. Upon arrival and identification, officers reported that an individual opened the door while brandishing a firearm.
Officials from Middletown stated that an officer discharged their weapon, resulting in one fatality. “This is the first time I’ve encountered anything so alarming in my vicinity,” remarked local resident Garrick McLaughlin. “It is particularly tragic that it occurred on Christmas.”
The Middletown Police Department noted that officers began utilizing body cameras this past summer, and this incident marks the first officer-involved shooting since the implementation of that program.
The Bureau of Criminal Investigation is currently conducting an inquiry into this officer-involved shooting.
