Alis Varela-Martinez Obituary, Death – The Texas Department of Public Safety has confirmed the identity of a man found deceased in a wrecked pickup near Bryan on Wednesday as 35-year-old Alis Varela-Martinez. He had most recently been living in a motel in Brazos County.
Varela-Martinez was discovered in a 2002 Ford F-250 pickup truck at the base of an embankment off State Highway, located just east of the Brazos River, on the outskirts of Bryan heading toward Caldwell. The vehicle had apparently gone off the road, rolling over and tumbling down the embankment. The truck was not easily visible from the main highway, which led authorities to believe it may have been some time before it was discovered.
The exact timing of the crash remains unclear as there were no known witnesses. The wreckage was only spotted when a passerby noticed it and alerted authorities. After finding the truck, investigators were able to locate Varela-Martinez’s next of kin, who were staying in the area, and they were promptly informed of the tragic incident.
At this time, authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
