Brittany Dale Mile Obituary, Death: Police identify two women killed in Muscatine crash involving fleeing driver.
Brittany Dale Mile Obituary, Death – Authorities have confirmed the identities of two individuals who tragically lost their lives when a car, fleeing from police, collided head-on with another vehicle in Muscatine on Sunday. The incident began around 3:15 p.m., when local authorities received multiple reports of shots being fired from a car. Officers quickly located the vehicle involved but the woman behind the wheel, later identified as Brittany Dale Miles, 36, refused to stop, leading to a pursuit that ultimately took her out of the city.
Miles, driving a 2021 Nissan Rogue, was seen traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of U.S. Highway 218 during the chase. According to a crash report from the Iowa State Patrol, the pursuit ended when Miles collided head-on with a 2017 Ford Explorer. Miles was killed instantly in the crash, while the driver of the Explorer, 27-year-old Olivia Marie Alvarez, later died despite life-saving efforts.
Court records reveal that Miles had a history of traffic violations, including charges for speeding and reckless driving. In June, she was also accused of assaulting her mother and taking her car without permission, adding to her criminal record.
In addition to the fatal crash involving Miles and Alvarez, another incident occurred during the pursuit. A Muscatine police officer, who was part of the chase, lost control of his vehicle and crashed near the Cedar River. The officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
The Iowa State Patrol is investigating both crashes. They have confirmed that no one was injured by the gunfire that had been reported earlier, and investigations into the shooting and the events leading up to the fatal crash are ongoing.
As the investigation continues, the community is mourning the loss of two lives in what began as an attempt to apprehend a suspect involved in a dangerous and violent situation. Authorities have assured that both the crash and the shooting are being thoroughly examined.
