Rakeem Phillips Obituary, Death – Three people lost their lives in two separate homicide incidents in Atmore over the weekend, with investigations ongoing and suspects still at large in at least one case.

The most recent incident occurred on Sunday night when police were called to a shooting at a vacant home on East Ashley Street around 8:15 p.m. Upon arrival, officers found two victims inside a vehicle that had been struck by multiple gunshots. Both individuals succumbed to their injuries. Authorities have not yet identified the victims or disclosed any arrests related to the case. The motive for the violence remains unclear, and police are actively gathering evidence as part of their investigation.

The earlier homicide took place on Friday night at the Point Escambia Apartments. Police responded to reports of a shooting shortly before 11 p.m. The victim, identified as 32-year-old Rakeem Phillips, was shot during an altercation with another man. Phillips was initially taken to Atmore Community Hospital, then transferred to another facility, where he later died from his injuries.

Authorities arrested 31-year-old Gelonte Giles in connection with the shooting. According to police, the incident began as an argument between Giles and Phillips, which escalated when Giles allegedly fired three to five shots, striking Phillips. Giles has since been charged with murder.

Both incidents are under investigation as police work to piece together the circumstances and motives behind the killings.
